Rossendale based machinery manufacturer MattressTek has expanded its business recently. The firm acquired assets and staff from precision components brand MPC in Accrington. This acquisition has resulted in the creation of a new business entity called MPC TEK.
MPC, established in 2004, was known for its subcontract machining services. Patrick Mitchell, their operations manager, will continue to play a crucial role in the new business. He will also be supported by Leanne Wilkinson.
MattressTek specialises in making equipment for mattress production. The brand leadership noted that the mattress manufacturing industry is growing globally, with 70% of its business now coming from international markets. In light of this, MattressTek has also signed a new deal with a US distribution agent called AtoZ Automation. This partnership aims to strengthen MattressTek’s position in the US market.
In addition to their core operations, they have started producing pallets and crates in-house to facilitate the shipping of their custom machinery internationally and domestically. The company’s success has led to an expansion into a neighbouring unit at Forest Mill in Rossendale. This has increased their overall space from 16,000 sq ft to nearly 22,000 sq ft.
Shaun Peel, who serves as the technical director at MattressTek and AutomateTek, expressed that their longstanding collaboration with MPC led them to seize the opportunity to acquire portions of MPC’s business when it became available, a decision they couldn’t pass up on.
MPC TEK will now serve as the internal machining division of MattressTek and AutomateTek, which are renowned for producing automation machinery and production lines for various industries. Their services portfolio will include milling, CNC machining, turning, and metalworking. The value of the already well-faring business has been maximised by repurposing assets and retaining key personnel. This approach allows for the efficient use of existing resources and can lead to increased profitability.
